Becky Brookhart - WSSBL President/Director

Becky has been involved in Washington State Select Baseball since 1988. Becky has promoted Select Baseball, however, truly feels that all forms of competition needs to be available……..from a “flyers up” game all the way to having a team in the Sandy Koufax league……..all level players need to have a place to play and excel. For 8 years, Becky worked tirelessly for the Washington State Select Baseball League. (WSSBL)

In 1996, Becky was given the honor of being appointed the President/Director of WSSBL. Up until that time, the league consisted of one division where 13 year old teams and 14 year old teams competed against each other. Becky felt that the age difference between an all 14-year-old team Vs an all 13-year-old team was too great and that the ages needed to be separated. It certainly could be a one sided game when an all 13 year old team came up against an all 14 year old team.

Also in 1996, Becky proposed that the two age groups be separated and that the new 13-year-old division play amongst themselves exclusively, while the 14’s play amongst themselves exclusively. Teams, coaches and parents loved the idea and supported the separation of the two age groups. Becky lobbied the local umpire association to service the younger age group. In the past, the umpire association had always been opposed to servicing an all 13-year-old league. Becky was able to get the umpire association to agree to a trial year. The stipulation was if the new division wasn’t as successful as the 14’s had been, the umpires association would not continue to service the younger age group. The new 13-year-old division ran so smoothly, the umpire association agreed to continue for the next season. It has remained, and both age groups have continued to grow and prosper.

Becky has always had an absolute passion for Select Baseball and the Sandy Koufax league. She has always worked and overseen the league without “politics”. Becky’s philosophy is that WSSBL will be handled exactly that way. Always fair and no preferential treatment of any kind. WSSBL is the only select league with a National affiliation in Washington State. American Amateur Baseball Congress is that organization. (AABC) This National affiliation entitles the State Tournament winners to go on to and compete in the Sandy Koufax Regional Tournament and the Regional Champion to continue on to the Sandy Koufax World Series. These are the most prestigious tournaments any Sandy Koufax Team or Select team could hope to compete in.
